Miley's Incy Wincy Birthday Party

Miley's 2nd birthday party was a blast! Similar to her first party, we kept it small and invited only some of our friends with kids plus a few others who really loved to come.

Brainstorming for the party theme started almost a month ahead. And because we were also traveling to New Zealand for holiday in between from the 10th to 21st Oct, we made sure that we had everything planned out before we left. Shopping for decoration stuff had to be done early too avoid everything Halloween related being sold out nearer the date.

So why a "Halloween X Nursery Rhymes" theme? "Halloween" cos Miley's actual birthday falls on 1st Nov, a day after Halloween and it would be cool if the kids could dress up. "Nursery Rhymes" to "soften" the scariness of the theme. Coincidentally, spiders which are commonly used as one of the mascots of the festival also has a nursery rhyme named after it! Most importantly, Miley loves that song!

Miley helped with the decorations too!
So the plan was, all decorations Halloween themed with touches of nursery rhymes. Besides playing nursery rhymes as background music, we also prepared a spread of nursery rhymes inspired treats for the kids and some with a twist of gore.

Sweet treats with table cards designed by daddy

Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars
Honey stars cereal

Pop! Goes the Weasel
Pop corns

Three Blind Mice Cheese Cubes
Kraft cheese cubes

Sand Witches
Sandwiches with ham and cheese

Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of eyeballs
A pail of chocolate eye balls

Rain Rain Go Away
Colorful jellies decorated with little umbrellas

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall
Hard boiled eggs

Muffin Man
Muffins baked by daddy

Not forgetting the cake! An Incy Wincy Spider cream cake! The most painful part of the preparation had to be the cake. It would have been so much easier if it was a fondant cake but persistent daddy insisted that it should be cream cos although fondant cakes are pretty to look at, nobody really likes eating them. And after many round of back and forth of email exchanges with several bakeries, we found one that could do it, almost. To cut the long story short, the end product that was presented to our guest was after "touch ups" by my very talented wifey. :)

Guests started arriving at 5pm sharp and very naturally gathered themselves at the little play corner that we had setup specially for the kiddos.

Having fun at the kiddy corner
The adult corner (invaded by kids too)
Getting ready to sing the birthday song!

Phew.... finally over!

Eventful Day

Miley is having a fever now from yesterday’s vaccination. A common side effect for children so not to worry. I’m sure both grannies are taking extra good care of her now. Check out her photo a second before and after the jab. ;D

Coincidentally, Nancy gave birth 2 days ago at the same hospital and since we were at Mt A, we popped by for a surprise visit to Miley’s newest cousin Noelle! She’s 2 days old, so small and cute. It was only 4.5 months ago when Miley was that small! :)

Also collected her first passport yesterday that carries a MTXX photo of her smiling. Didn’t expect this picture to be approved cos firstly, it’s not on a white background but slightly yellowish due to photo filter and secondly, the dimension didn’t match their sample on the website. I guess they are more lenient towards children. She’s now ready for her first trip!!! ;)

Final stop at DiGio bridal to visit Casey, Jeslyn and Vanness! Our Bridal Melbourne photoshoot team! It’s been 2 years since we last stepped foot into the shop and their first time meeting Miley! Will visit again when she’s older. ;D

Such an eventful day!

Days at the hospital

Mother and daughter bonding time in the super single deluxe ward that we just transferred to. We spend 2 nights there till Friday noon.

One of the super effort gifts - Confinement Cupcakes from Claudia and Munn. Her self created recipe that I must share!!!

The sticky quinteple ginger cupcakes has Lots of ginger! They have all the usual cupcake ingredients of butter, eggs, sugar etc but I added ground ginger, freshly grated ginger and preserved ginger into the batter then I topped it off with chopped candy ginger in ginger jam before frosting. Purple cream is cream cheese frosting and the baby pink is lemon frosting. :)

Baby Miley at 1 day 14 hours old. Sleeping cozily in mummy’s arm after breast feeding. Looks like a little girl that needs quite a bit of attention.

Big Thank You to everyone who had visited us in the last 3 days and all the lovely gifts for baby Miley and mummy. Mummy received lots of tonics that will probably last for a year or more! Maybe daddy will help to consume some. ;)

Our little bug… ready to go home!

Hospital Tour

Bumped into RS colleague’s baby boy Xavier when we were at Mt Alvernia for our hospital tour today. Xavier is so cute with nice stylish hair! Handsome boy in the making!

Visited all the single bed room categories during the hospital tour together with Kei and John. After a while I’m confused with the different room types of subtle differences. To me it doesn’t matter as long as it’s single bed room.

An interesting thing I learned today - 1 day is 24 hours in hospital term starting from 12 midnight, unlike hotel terms, 2pm check-in and 12noon check-out, total 22 hours, is considered 2 days 1 night! So it’s better to deliver past mid-night to get the most out of it!
